फक्त
Only
फक्त has one form and never takes an ending.
How It Works
Use फक्त when only one thing is true and nothing else.
| Marathi | What it limits |
|---|---|
| फक्त दोन मिनिटे. | the time |
| मी फक्त चहा घेते. | the drink |
| फक्त आजी घरी आहेत. | the person |
फक्त stands directly before the word. Move it, and you change what is limited: फक्त मी चहा घेते means I am the only one who has tea.
The verb agrees with the sentence as usual. In फक्त आजी घरी आहेत, the verb is plural out of respect for आजी.
A man says मी फक्त पाणी पितो, and a woman says मी फक्त पाणी पिते. The word फक्त has no gender of its own.
In formal writing, केवळ takes the same place and means the same. Everyday Marathi uses फक्त.
