Од (from) and до (to, until) frame a stretch of space or time: од Скопје до Охрид, од осум до пет.

How It Works

In space. Патувавме од Скопје до Охрид. (We travelled from Skopje to Ohrid.) · Колку километри има од Битола до Прилеп? (How many kilometres is it from Bitola to Prilep?)

In time.

  • hours: од осум до пет, from eight to five (see Telling the Time)
  • days: од понеделник до петок (see Days of the Week)
  • parts of the day: од утро до вечер, from morning till evening

Numbers and amounts. деца од пет до десет години (children aged five to ten).

Each half alone. Од by itself means from: Јас сум од Скопје (Saying Where You Are From). До by itself means until or as far as: До утре! (See you tomorrow!) · Одиме до плоштадот. (We are going as far as the square.) До also means next to (Positions in Space).

No case endings. Unlike Serbian or Russian, the nouns keep their dictionary form and take the article when they are known: од градот до морето (Nouns Without Case Endings).

Common Mistakes

  • Adding case endings, as in Serbian or Russian.

    Одиме од града до мора.
    Одиме од градот до морето.

    Macedonian nouns do not change after prepositions. A known place takes the article instead: градот, морето.
