Dates
Dates use an ordinal number (first, fifteenth) before the month: на први мај (on the first of May). A year takes во: во 2024 година (in 2024).
How It Works
Order: day, month, year. A date can be written 3.3.2019, 3.III 2019 or 3 март 2019 година. Single-digit days and months are written without a zero in ordinary writing: 3.3.2019.
Reading the day: the day is read as an ordinal number from редни броеви: прв; втор; трет: први, втори, трети, четврти, петти, шести, седми, осми, деветти, десетти, единаесетти, дванаесетти … дваесетти, дваесет и први … триесетти, триесет и први. So 3 март is read трети март.
Prepositions:
- на + date: на први мај, на 8 септември
- во + year: во 2024 година, во 1991 година
- во + month with no day: во мај (see месеци и годишни времиња)
When the date is what you are naming, no preposition is used: Денес е петнаесетти август. For a stretch of days, use од ... до: од петти до десетти јули.
Holidays: a plain date is written in small letters, but a date that is the name of a holiday is capitalized: Први мај (Labour Day), Осми септември, Нова година. See голема и мала буква.

Common Mistakes
Using во instead of на before a date.
Роденден ми е во дваесет и први март.Роденден ми е на дваесет и први март.A date with a day number takes на. Во is for a month or a year on its own.
Using на instead of во before a year.
Се преселивме на 2019 година.Се преселивме во 2019 година.A year takes во: во 2019 година.
Writing the month with a capital letter.
Се венчаа на трети Јуни.Се венчаа на трети јуни.Months are written in small letters. A capital is used only when a date is the name of a holiday, such as Први мај.
