Multi-Word Prepositions
Some prepositions are made of several words: благодарение на (thanks to), во врска со (concerning), во однос на (regarding) and врз основа на (on the basis of): Благодарение на тебе, успеав. (Thanks to you, I succeeded.)
How It Works
Благодарение на: thanks to. It names a cause that helped: Благодарение на тебе, успеав. (Thanks to you, I succeeded.) For a neutral or bad cause, use поради: Поради дождот, не излеговме. (Because of the rain, we did not go out.)
Во врска со: concerning. It says what something is about and is typical of formal letters: Ви пишувам во врска со Вашето барање. (I am writing to you concerning your request.) Во врска со тоа means "in that regard".
Во однос на: regarding, compared with. Во однос на цената, немаме забелешки. (Regarding the price, we have no objections.) In the news it often compares two things: Цените се повисоки во однос на минатата година. (Prices are higher compared with last year.)
Врз основа на: on the basis of. Одлуката е донесена врз основа на анкетата. (The decision was made on the basis of the survey.)
Other phrases like these. За време на and во текот на (during), без оглед на (regardless of) and во случај на (in case of) work the same way.
Pronouns. After the last word, use the long pronoun, as after any preposition: благодарение на него, во врска со нив.

Using благодарение на for a bad cause.
Благодарение на дождот, го пропуштивме возот. (meaning: Because of the rain, we missed the train.)Поради дождот, го пропуштивме возот.Благодарение на means you are thankful for the cause, so the first sentence sounds ironic, as if you were glad about the rain. For a neutral or bad cause, use поради.
Using a subject pronoun after the phrase.
