Giving a Reason

Level 2Sounds Like kyōṅki

क्योंकि (because) joins a fact to its reason: वह नहीं आया क्योंकि वह बीमार था.

How It Works

क्योंकि (because) introduces a reason. Put it between the two parts: what happened + क्योंकि + why.

(I'm at home today because I'm not feeling well).

Each half is a complete sentence with its own verb and its own time. One half can be in the present and the other in the past:

A question with क्यों (why) is often answered with क्योंकि: आप हिंदी क्यों सीख रहे हैं?

The two words look alike: क्यों asks why, and क्योंकि answers it.

To give the reason first and the result second, use
