वह
Whoever or Whatever
जो भी means whoever or whatever.
How It Works
वह links a clause to the main sentence: जो लड़का आया था, वह मेरा भाई है. Adding भी opens it up to anyone or anything: जो भी यहाँ आएगा, वह हमारा मेहमान होगा। (Whoever comes here will be our guest.)
Each clause picks its own form, based on its own verb:
| Relative clause | Main clause |
|---|---|
The fuller forms जो कोई भी (whoever) and जो कुछ भी (whatever) are also common.
The relative clause often uses the future for something still to come:
When the meaning is clear without it, वह can be left out: आपको जो भी चाहिए, माँग लीजिए.
Compare plain जो, which points to one known person or thing, and चाहे जो भी, which adds no matter.
