कोई भी / कुछ भी
Anyone and Anything
कोई भी = anyone, कुछ भी = anything. With नहीं: nobody at all, nothing at all.
How It Works
कोई means someone and कुछ means something. Adding भी widens them to anyone at all and anything at all.
| Positive | Negative |
|---|---|
| कोई भी आ सकता है (Anyone can come) | कोई भी नहीं आया (Nobody at all came) |
| कुछ भी चलेगा (Anything will do) | कुछ भी नहीं हुआ (Nothing at all happened) |
कोई भी can also go before a noun: कोई भी किताब (any book), किसी भी दिन (any day).
Before a postposition. कोई changes to किसी, and भी comes after the postposition: किसी को भी, किसी से भी, किसी ने भी. कुछ does not change.
Positive sentences. These words fit best with can, choices and commands: कोई भी किताब चुन लो (Pick any book). For a plain fact about everyone, use सब instead: सब आए (Everyone came).
Negative sentences. नहीं usually comes near the verb: मैंने कुछ भी नहीं सुना. Without भी, कोई नहीं and कुछ नहीं mean nobody and nothing. भी makes them stronger.
