ვამბობ/ვიტყვი/ვთქვი
Saying
Say is ვამბობ (I say), ვიტყვი (I will say) and ვთქვი (I said).
How It Works
| Person | Present | Future | Past |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | ვამბობ | ვიტყვი | ვთქვი |
| you | ამბობ | იტყვი | თქვი |
| he, she | ამბობს | იტყვის | თქვა |
| we | ვამბობთ | ვიტყვით | ვთქვით |
| they | ამბობენ | იტყვიან | თქვეს |
Each tense has its own stem, so learn the three as one set, like say and said.
In the past, the speaker takes -მა and what was said is in the nominative: ნინომ არაფერი თქვა (Nino didn't say anything).
Report what someone said with რომ: თქვა, რომ ხვალ მოვა (he said that he'll come tomorrow). ამბობენ, რომ (they say that) is how Georgians pass on what people say.
Say does not take a listener. To say something to someone, use tell: ნინოს ვუთხარი (I told Nino).
რას ამბობ? (What are you saying?) is also used for surprise, like really?
