თითქოს
As if
თითქოს means as if or as though.
How It Works
| Pattern | Example |
|---|---|
| ისე ..., თითქოს | ისე იქცევა, თითქოს არაფერი მოხდა. (He acts as if nothing happened.) |
| თითქოს + -დე- form | ისე ლაპარაკობს, თითქოს ყველაფერი იცოდეს. (He talks as if he knew everything.) |
| თითქოს at the start | თითქოს ვიღაც კარზე აკაკუნებს. (It sounds like someone is knocking at the door.) |
At the start of a sentence, თითქოს (titkos) often means it seems that: you are not sure, but it looks or sounds that way.
When the comparison is clearly not true, the verb can go in the subjunctive or the optative: ნინო ისე მღერის, თითქოს პროფესიონალი მომღერალი იყოს (Nino sings as if she were a professional singer).
For a short comparison with one noun, -ივით is simpler: ბავშვივით (like a child).
