თავისი
His Own, Her Own
თავისი means his own or her own and points back to the subject.
How It Works
| Sentence | Whose book? |
|---|---|
| ნინომ თავისი (tavisi) წიგნი წაიკითხა. | Nino's own book |
| ნინომ მისი წიგნი წაიკითხა. | someone else's book, for example Ana's |
In other cases it changes like ჩემი: თავის ძმას (to his brother), თავის ოთახში (in her room), თავისმა დამ (her sister, as a doer in the past).
For a plural subject, use თავიანთი, as in the last example below.
English uses his and her for both meanings, so the choice between მისი and თავისი is easy to miss. Ask whether the owner is the person doing the action. If so, use თავისი.
