ყველა
Everyone and All
ყველა means everyone, or all before a noun, and takes a singular verb.
How It Works
ყველა (q'vela) has two jobs.
- Alone, it means everyone: ყველა აქ არის (everyone is here).
- Before a noun, it means all: ყველა ბავშვი (all the children).
In both cases, Georgian treats ყველა as singular. The noun after it is singular and the verb is singular too:
| Georgian | English |
|---|---|
| ყველა ქართულად ლაპარაკობს. | Everyone speaks Georgian. |
| ყველა ბავშვი ეზოში თამაშობს. | All the children are playing in the yard. |
When ყველა stands alone, it takes case endings like a noun. With feeling verbs the person is in the dative, so everyone becomes ყველას: ყველას უყვარს ხაჭაპური (everyone loves khachapuri).
Before a noun, ყველა does not change, and the noun takes the ending: ყველა ბავშვს უყვარს ნაყინი (all children love ice cream).
For everything, use a different word: ყველაფერი.
