-ებ- (Plural Nouns)
Plural Nouns
Add -ებ- before the case ending to make a plural.
How It Works
| Singular | Plural |
|---|---|
| სახლი (house) | სახლები |
| ბავშვი (child) | ბავშვები |
| დედა (mother) | დედები |
| და (sister) | დები |
| ტყე (forest) | ტყეები |
| მეგობარი (friend) | მეგობრები |
Some nouns also lose a vowel inside the stem: მეგობარი (friend) becomes მეგობრები. You will learn this vowel loss at Level 2.
Two rules keep the plural simple: adjectives do not take it (დიდი სახლები, big houses), and after a number the noun stays singular (ორი სახლი, two houses).
In names and set phrases you may see an older plural in -ნი or -თა. Everyday Georgian uses -ებ-.
The plural works the same way in every case: ბავშვებს (dative), ბავშვების (genitive).
