მო- (Toward Here)
Toward Here
Adding მო- after another preverb points the motion toward the speaker.
How It Works
A direction preverb on its own means away from the speaker. Add მო- after it to mean toward the speaker:
| Away | Toward here | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| შევიდა | შემოვიდა | went in, came in |
| გავიდა | გამოვიდა | went out, came out |
| ავიდა | ამოვიდა | went up, came up |
| ჩავიდა | ჩამოვიდა | went down, came down |
| გადავიდა | გადმოვიდა | went over, came over |
Note the short form: გადა- and მო- join as გადმო-.
The commands follow the same pattern: შემოდი! (come in!), გამოდი! (come out!), ჩამოდი! (come down!), and with -თ for several people or to be polite: შემოდით!
ჩამოვიდა (chamovida) is also the usual word for arriving where the speaker is, such as a guest coming to your town: ბებია სოფლიდან ჩამოვიდა (grandma came in from the village).
