ხან ..., ხან
Sometimes ..., Sometimes
ხან ..., ხან means sometimes ..., sometimes: first one thing, then another.
How It Works
| Example | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ხან წვიმს, ხან მზეა. | Sometimes it rains, sometimes it's sunny. |
| ხან ავტობუსით დავდივარ, ხან ფეხით. | Sometimes I take the bus, sometimes I walk. |
| ბავშვი ხან იცინის, ხან ტირის. | The child laughs one moment and cries the next. |
The verb can stay out of the second part when it is the same: ხან ავტობუსით დავდივარ, ხან ფეხით.
For habits in the past, use the imperfect: ზაფხულს ხან ზღვაზე ვატარებდით, ხან სოფელში (we spent our summers sometimes at the sea, sometimes in the village).
ხანდახან is the plain word for sometimes: ხანდახან ხინკალს სახლში ვაკეთებთ (sometimes we make khinkali at home). ხან needs at least two parts.
Compare ან ..., ან (either ... or), which is a choice. ხან ..., ხან is about taking turns.
