-გან
From a Person or Material
Add -გან to the genitive to say from a person, or made of.
How It Works
| -გან: a person or material | -დან: a place |
|---|---|
| მეგობრისგან (from a friend) | თბილისიდან (from Tbilisi) |
| დედისგან (from Mom) | სახლიდან (from home) |
| ხისგან (out of wood) | ქალაქიდან (from the city) |
Use -გან when a person is the source: ეს ამბავი ბებიისგან გავიგე (I heard this story from Grandma).
Use it for material too: ქვევრს თიხისგან აკეთებენ (the qvevri, the wine jar, is made of clay).
Pronouns take the short form: ჩემგან (from me), შენგან (from you), მისგან (from him or her).
A word that loses a vowel in the genitive loses it here too: მეგობარი, მეგობრის, მეგობრისგან.
