ju pli + Clause, des pli + Clause
The More ... the More
The ju part sets the change, and the des part follows it.
How It Works
| Pattern | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| ju pli ... des pli | Ju pli vi legas, des pli vi scias. | more of one, more of the other |
| ju pli ... des malpli | Ju pli rapide Ana parolas, des malpli bone mi komprenas. | more of one, less of the other |
| ju malpli ... des pli | Ju malpli ni hastas, des pli bone ni laboras. | less of one, more of the other |
Ju goes in the first part and des in the second. The two words do not swap, and ju in both parts, or des in both parts, does not work.
A part can be short: ju pli frue, des pli bone (the earlier, the better). With a noun, da follows pli: ju pli da amikoj, des pli da ĝojo. Several ju parts can lead to one des part: Ju pli zorge kaj ju pli malrapide vi laboras, des pli kontenta vi estas.
