ရုံ
Just Doing That
ရုံနဲ့ means "just by doing it": ကြည့်ရုံနဲ့ သိတယ်။ (You can tell just by looking.)
How It Works
ရုံ limits an action. It says you do only that much.
| Form | Example | English |
|---|---|---|
| only that | ကြည့်ရုံပဲ ကြည့်တာပါ။ | I'm just looking. |
| just by | ကြည့်ရုံနဲ့ သိတယ်။ | You can tell just by looking. |
| only just | ရောက်ရုံပဲ ရှိသေးတယ်။ | I've only just arrived. |
| all you do | နှိပ်ရုံပါပဲ။ | All you do is press it. |
In shops, ကြည့်ရုံပဲ ကြည့်တာပါ is the polite way to say you are not buying yet.
ရုံပဲ ရှိသေးတယ် means the action has only just happened: ရောက်ရုံပဲ ရှိသေးတယ် (I've only just got here).
ရုံ goes only after a verb. After a noun, use ပဲ: ရေပဲ သောက်မယ် (I'll just have water).
In a negative, ရုံနဲ့ says one step is not enough: ကြည့်ရုံနဲ့ မသိနိုင်ဘူး (You can't tell just by looking). Use it when someone thinks a quick look is enough.
