For something that seems about to happen, use မယ့်ပုံရတယ်: မိုးရွာမယ့်ပုံရတယ်။

How It Works

ပုံရတယ် lets you say what the signs suggest without saying you are sure. Use it when you can see something but do not know for certain.

မိုးရွာမယ့်ပုံရတယ်။It looks like it's going to rain.
နားမလည်ပုံရတယ်။He doesn't seem to understand.

The verb before ပုံ drops its ending. Helpers like နေ (ongoing) and သွား (change) stay. For the future, use မယ့် before ပုံ.

To say "I think", from your own opinion, use လို့ထင်တယ်. ပုံရတယ် is for the evidence in front of you. The written form, used in news, is ဟန်တူသည်.

In casual speech, ပုံပဲ often takes the place of ပုံရတယ်: မိုးရွာမယ့်ပုံပဲ။ (Looks like rain.) Both mean the same thing.

    The shop seems to have closed.

    သွား shows the change the signs point to.

  4. ဒီဟင်းက စပ်ပုံရတယ်။

    This curry looks spicy.

    You judge from how the curry looks.

  5. ဒီလူက မြန်မာလို နားမလည်ပုံရတယ်။

    This man doesn't seem to understand Burmese.

    The negative မ goes inside, on နားလည်.

    The verb drops its ending before ပုံရတယ်.
