तें / तोर
Very Close Talk: तें
तें is the very close "you" for small children and the closest family.
How It Works
Bhojpuri has three levels of "you". तें is the lowest. A parent or grandparent may use it with a small child, and very close people may use it as a joke. From a stranger it is an insult.
| Meaning | Form |
|---|---|
| you | तें |
| to you, before a postposition | तोरा |
| your | तोर |
Songs and older speech also use तें, so you will hear it there. A short command to a child is the safest form to recognise: तें खा, तें बइठ.
Do not use तें yourself, even with friends. Say तू, with तोहार for your. Use रउआ with elders.
