पकल / टूटल
Past Forms as Describing Words
The -ल form of a verb can describe a noun.
How It Works
The -ल form acts like an adjective. It describes a noun and says the state that follows the action.
| Verb | Form | Example |
|---|---|---|
| पकल (ripen) | पकल | पकल आम |
| टूटल (break) | टूटल | टूटल गिलास |
| खुलल (open) | खुलल | खुलल दुआर |
| पढ़ल (read) | पढ़ल-लिखल | पढ़ल-लिखल आदमी |
Like most adjectives, it does not change for a masculine or feminine noun. Compare with a verb in the past tense, which changes with the subject: गिलास टूटल (the glass broke).
Pairs like पढ़ल-लिखल and खुलल-खुलल are very common. The doubled form adds a feeling of "all open".
