करीं / आईं

Polite Requests: -ईं

Level 1Sounds Like karīṁ ā ā'īṁ

For an elder or a customer, take the stem and add -ीं or -ईं: बइठीं, एगो चाय दीं.

How It Works

Bhojpuri has a separate command for people you respect. It is used for parents, teachers, shop customers and anyone you address as रउआ.

VerbPolite formMeaning
बइठलबइठींplease sit
आवलआईंplease come
जाइलजाईंplease go
देखलदेखींplease look
देलदींplease give
लेललींplease take

The same -ीं ending is used for हम when you offer or ask what to do: हम का करीं? (What should I do?). Context shows which meaning is meant.

For a request about later, a different form is used, such as अइहऽ for तू. At first, learn the forms above and add तनी to be warm: तनी रुकीं।
