ह / हवे / हईं

Saying What Something Is

Level 1Sounds Like ha, havē ā ha'īṁ

To say who or what something is, use ह, and हईं with हम or रउआ.

How It Works

Bhojpuri has two kinds of is. बा tells where or how someone is. ह tells who or what they are.

WhoFormExample
हम, रउआहईंरउआ के हईं?
ई, ऊ, a nameहई हमार घर ह।
a respected personहवेंई हमार चाचा जी हवें।

Write ह with no ऽ. Learners will see हऽ in other writing, and it is the same word.

हवे is a fuller, more emphatic is that you will meet in written Bhojpuri. In lessons we write ह.

Say it is not with ना ह: ई हमार ना ह (This isn't mine). Do not use नइखे here; it negates बा, for place, presence and state.

Common Mistakes

  • Using ह for where someone is.

    हम घरे हईं।
    हम घरे बानी।

For place, use बानी or बा, not ह.
