ई / ऊ
This and That
ई means this, or he or she nearby, and ऊ means that, or he or she further away.
How It Works
ई and ऊ work as this and that. They are also the usual words for he, she and it.
| Use | Near | Far |
|---|---|---|
| pronoun | ई | ऊ |
| before a noun | ई घर | ऊ घर |
| noun + postposition | एह घर में | ओह घर में |
| before के, से | एकरा के | ओकरा के |
ई and ऊ do not change for gender. Gender shows in the verb: ऊ जाला (he goes), ऊ जाली (she goes).
For men you respect, the verb is the plural form: ऊ आवत बाड़ें. For more than one, add लोग: ई लोग, ऊ लोग.
