ना
Saying No or Not
ना means no, and before a verb it means not.
How It Works
ना is the main word for no and not.
- As an answer: ना, हम ना जाइब। (No, I won't go.)
- Before a verb: ऊ चाय ना पियेला। (He doesn't drink tea.)
- With ह for identity: ई हमार ना ह। (This isn't mine.)
The verb does not change when you add ना. The same person endings are used: हम ना आइब, तू ना जालऽ, ऊ ना गइल.
With बा, say नइखे: दूध नइखे. A few writers use ना बा, but lessons write नइखे.
For commands, use मत: मत जा (don't go). You may hear नाहीं in eastern areas and in writing. It means the same as ना.
