एह / ओह

This and That Before Postpositions

Level 2Sounds Like ēha ā ōha

ई घर is this house, but एह घर में is in this house.

How It Works

PlainWith a postposition
ई घर ह।एह घर में केहू नइखे।
ऊ दिन नीक रहे।ओह दिन से हम ना गइनी।
ई लोग आवत बाड़ें।एह लोग के बोलाईं।
ऊ लइकी गइली।ओह लइकी से पूछीं।

The change usually depends on what follows the noun. A phrase that says when or in which direction takes एह or ओह anyway: ओह दिन, एह साल. The same घर is ई घर alone, and एह घर में with में.

These are the forms of ई and ऊ used before a noun. The words used on their own for him and her are different: ओकरा, एकरा.

The rule is the same as for कवन and कवना.
