Saying What Is Done: -आ जाब
The -आ form plus जाब says what is done without saying who does it.
How It Works
The passive says what happens to a thing without naming who does it. In Awadhi it is the -आ form with जाब.
| Form | Meaning |
|---|---|
| गावा जात अहै | is sung |
| बनावा गवा | was made |
| बोली जात अहै | is spoken (a language) |
| खोला गवा | was opened |
The first form agrees with the thing: गावा for a masculine thing (गाना), बोली for a feminine one (अवधी). Then जाब follows in the tense you need.
Examples: ई गाना बियाह मा गावा जात अहै (this song is sung at weddings), इहाँ अवधी बोली जात अहै (Awadhi is spoken here).
Speakers use it for customs, rules and general facts more than for a single event. For a single event, a plain active sentence with the doer (अम्मा खाना बनाइन) is more natural.
