যি … সেই

Whoever … That One

Level 5Sounds Like yi … sē'i

শিক্ষকে যি ক’লে তাকেই লিখাঁ means “write what the teacher said”.

How It Works

The first part is a describing clause with যি. The second part names the same thing with সি, সেই or তাক, often with -ই for stress.

First partSecond partMeans
যিতাকেইwhatever … that very thing
যিজনসেইজনthe person who … that person
যিটোসেইটোthe thing that … that thing

Examples: মই যি কিনিম বুলি ক’লোঁ তাকেই কিনিলোঁ “I bought what I said I would buy”, and তেওঁ যিজন লাজকুৰীয়া ল’ৰা আছিল, সেইজন এতিয়া ডাঙৰ মানুহ হৈছে “the shy boy he was has now become a grown man”.

The second part can be left out: তুমি যি ক’লা ঠিকেই ক’লা “what you said is right”. When the first part names a person, use যিজন or, for the doer, যিয়ে.
