যেতিয়া … তেতিয়া
When … Then …
যেতিয়া মই সৰু আছিলোঁ, তেতিয়া আমি গাঁৱত আছিলোঁ “when I was small, we lived in a village”.
How It Works
The first part names the time, and the second part says what happened at that time. Use a comma between them.
| Part | Job | Example |
|---|---|---|
| যেতিয়া … | names the time | যেতিয়া মই সৰু আছিলোঁ |
| তেতিয়া … | says what happened then | তেতিয়া মই হাফলু ভাঙি ভাল পাইছিলোঁ |
যেতিয়া can come after the subject: আমি যেতিয়া তেওঁক খবৰটো দিলোঁ “when we gave him the news”. The verbs in both parts are usually in the same tense. Without তেতিয়া the sentence is still right: যেতিয়া বৰষুণ আৰম্ভ হ’ল, মই বজাৰত আছিলোঁ. Do not mix up যেতিয়া “when” in a statement with কেতিয়া “when?” in a question.
