যাৰ … তাৰ
Whose … Belongs to That One
জোৰ যাৰ মুলুক তাৰ means “the land belongs to whoever has the strength”.
How It Works
The two words work as a set: first the person who has something, then what belongs to that same person.
| First part | Second part | Means |
|---|---|---|
| যাক | তাক | whom … him |
| যাৰ | তাৰ | whose … his |
A proverb uses the first pair: ৰজাই ভাল দেখে যাক, শতৰু নুবুলিবাঁ তাক “do not call him an enemy whom the king favours”.
The word যাৰ also opens a describing clause with no second part. It means “whose” for a person, or “for which” when a postposition follows: যাৰ লগত “with whom”, যাৰ বাবে “for which”.
In জোৰ যাৰ মুলুক তাৰ, the strong person holds the land. The pair can also link a general rule to the person it covers: যাৰ গৰু আছে তাৰ ঘৰত গাখীৰ আছে “whoever has a cow has milk at home”.
