-সকল

Many People: -সকল

Level 2Sounds Like sakala

-সকল is the plural for people.

How It Works

The ending -সকল is used with words for people.

OneThe group
বন্ধু “friend”বন্ধুসকল “the friends”
শিক্ষক “teacher”শিক্ষকসকল “the teachers”
ছাত্ৰ “student”ছাত্ৰসকল “the students”

The ending gives the group a little respect and is common in newspapers and speeches. In daily talk people also use -বোৰ, as in মানুহবোৰ “the people”.

When the group does an action to something, it takes the doer ending: বন্ধুসকলে চাহ খায় “the friends drink tea”.

A word before it can say whose they are: ছামিৰ বন্ধুসকল “Sami’s friends”.

The ending is not needed after a number: তিনিজন বন্ধু “three friends”.
