-inglar
Commands to a Group
To speak to several people at once, add -inglar to the verb stem: Kelinglar! (Come, everyone!).
How It Works
This ending is the polite command -(i)ng plus the plural -lar. It speaks to a group, the people you would call sizlar:
- After a consonant: -inglar. kel- → kelinglar (come), och- → ochinglar (open), boʻl- → boʻlinglar (be).
- After a vowel: -nglar. oʻqi- → oʻqinglar (read), ishla- → ishlanglar (work).
When to use it. It is the everyday way to talk to a group of friends, children, classmates or students. Teachers use it in class: Kitoblarni ochinglar (Open your books). When speaking to a group of guests or older people, the polite -ing form, like Marhamat, oʻtiring, is also common and always safe.
One person or many. For one friend, use the bare stem, Kel!; see familiar commands. For one person you call siz, use Keling. For a group, use Kelinglar.
Saying don't. Put -ma- right after the stem, and the ending becomes -nglar: qilmanglar (don't do it, all of you). See -ma / -mang (buyruq inkori).
To include yourself in the group, as in let's, use -(a)ylik instead.
