Ismingiz nima?
Asking Someone's Name
Ismingiz nima? = What is your name? The answer: Mening ismim Dilnoza. or Ismim Dilnoza.
How It Works
How the question is built: ism + -ingiz → ismingiz (your name), then nima (what). The -(i)ngiz ending means your, politely. There is no separate word for is.
You can put sizning (your) in front to be extra clear: Sizning ismingiz nima? The ending -ingiz stays either way.
Answering: ism + -im → ismim (my name), with the -(i)m ending.
- Mening ismim Dilnoza. (My name is Dilnoza.)
- Ismim Aziz. (My name is Aziz.)
mening (my) is optional, but the ending -im is not.
Asking about others:
- A child or a close friend: Isming nima? with -(i)ng
- Someone else: Uning ismi nima? (What is his or her name?) with -(s)i
After you exchange names, people often say Tanishganimdan xursandman (Nice to meet you).
