-نا ضروری / ممکن / مشکل ہے

Judging an Activity

Level 3

Use the infinitive to name what you are judging.

How It Works

A place, time or object can belong inside the activity phrase: یہ خط پڑھنا مشکل ہے. The difficulty concerns reading the letter, not necessarily the letter as an object by itself.

To state whose circumstances matter, add a phrase such as میرے لیے. Compare تیرنا مشکل ہے with میرے لیے تیرنا مشکل ہے; the second limits the judgment to the speaker.

These adjectives do not change with a feminine person. A masculine singular infinitive phrase can be followed by ضروری تھا or ممکن تھا in the past. For a full clause with its own subject, use a کہ construction instead.

Examples (4)

  1. یہاں بیٹھنا ممکن ہے۔

It is possible to sit here.

The infinitive names the activity being evaluated.

  2. یہ خط پڑھنا مشکل ہے۔

This letter is difficult to read.

The whole phrase یہ خط پڑھنا is evaluated.

  3. میرے لیے صبح جلدی اٹھنا مشکل ہے۔

Getting up early in the morning is difficult for me.

میرے لیے identifies whose experience matters.

  4. دروازہ بند کرنا ضروری تھا۔

It was necessary to close the door.

تھا places the evaluation in the past.
