How It Works
کے باوجود can follow a noun phrase, such as بارش کے باوجود. Adding اس and a کہ clause lets you state the obstacle as a full proposition.
The writer accepts the information in the subordinate clause while making the main claim. The two clauses can have different subjects and their own appropriate tenses.
The longer form is useful when the conceded information needs a full clause, but حالانکہ can often express a similar relation more compactly. Do not read the conceded obstacle as the reason the result happened.

Despite the fact that time was short, the team finished the work.
The limited time makes completion less expected.
- اس کے باوجود کہ مجھے راستہ معلوم تھا، میں غلط موڑ مڑ گیا۔
Even though I knew the route, I took a wrong turn.
Knowing the route did not prevent the mistake.
- اس کے باوجود کہ قیمت بڑھ گئی ہے، طلب کم نہیں ہوئی۔
Despite the fact that the price has risen, demand has not fallen.
The main clause denies an expected consequence.
- اس کے باوجود کہ سب نے منع کیا، وہ مقابلے میں شریک ہوئی۔
Although everyone advised against it, she entered the competition.
The clauses have different subjects: everyone and the woman entering.
