بے- / نا-

Building a Negative or Lacking Description

Level 6

بے خبر → unaware; ناممکن → impossible.

How It Works

بے often describes being without something, while نا appears in established negative descriptions. Their meanings overlap in some words, but they are not freely interchangeable.

Learn the complete form and its use: بے فکر can mean free from worry, whereas ناواقف means unfamiliar or unacquainted. The space after بے and the joining of نا vary by established spelling; do not infer meaning from spacing alone.

A prefix forms part of a description. نہیں negates a statement. وہ بے خبر نہیں ہے denies that the person is unaware; it does not remove or replace the prefix mechanically.

  3. اتنے کم وقت میں یہ کام ناممکن ہے۔

This task is impossible in so little time.

ناممکن is an established negative adjective.

  4. وہ ان اصولوں سے ناواقف نہیں ہے۔
