Respectful Imperative + گا
A Polite Instruction for a Later Action
Respectful instruction + گا → a courteous request.
How It Works
Forms such as کیجیے گا and دیجیے گا make a respectful request. The action often belongs to a later stage: someone arrives first, then sends a message.
This گا stays the same when addressing a woman or several people. It is not the ordinary future ending that changes to گی or گے with gender and number.
Tone and the relationship still matter. The form can soften a request, but no grammatical ending guarantees politeness in every situation.
Examples (4)
Maryam, please let us know when you arrive.
گا stays unchanged with a female addressee.
Please bring the original documents tomorrow.
The request concerns a later action.
Please check the address before sending the form.
The request fits a particular stage in a process.
Please do not forget us when you come back.
مت makes the respectful request negative.
Common Mistakes
Changing request گا to گی for a woman.
In the intended respectful imperative, گا is fixed. سنیے گی does not form this request.
