In the examples here, จนได้ presents an outcome as happening 'after all'. The outcome can be success, lateness, rain, forgetting, or a purchase. It is not automatically a successful achievement or an inevitable event.

1. Read the Whole Expression
The linked จน has until and result meanings. Learn the whole จนได้ expression in its sentence rather than translating the examples as 'until get'. The separate pre-verbal ได้ construction is a comparison, not proof that every outcome with จนได้ is successful.

2. Outcome and Context
เขามาสายจนได้ reports lateness after all; it does not identify who expected it. ฝนตกจนได้ reports that it rained after all; an earlier hope or prediction comes from context. ในที่สุดเขาก็ทำสำเร็จจนได้ reports success in the end, without specifying the number of attempts or length of the struggle. เขาลืมกุญแจจนได้ reports forgetting, without establishing a recurring habit.

3. Position in These Examples
For the requested lateness pattern, use เขามาสายจนได้ with จนได้ after มาสาย. It need not be the final material in the entire sentence: ซื้อเครื่องใหม่จนได้นะ has นะ after it. The understood buyer in the English translation is inferred from context.

4. Compare a Meal-Status Report
For the exercise requesting a plain report that eating is finished with แล้ว, use กินข้าวเสร็จแล้ว. กินข้าวเสร็จจนได้ instead presents finishing the meal as an after-all outcome. It can suit another context; it does not necessarily imply fighting against eating or being extremely busy.

5. Other Uses
จนได้ can also occur in an intention to obtain or accomplish something, as in a promise to keep trying to find money for someone. It does not universally assert a completed past event. Compare the complete context with ในที่สุด ('in the end') rather than treating one expression as exclusively formal and the other as exclusively conversational.

Common Mistakes

Not placing จนได้ after มาสาย in the requested lateness pattern.
