หวังว่า
Hope That
Use หวังว่า (wǎng wâa) to say "I hope that..." or "Hopefully..." about an outcome you want but do not yet know.
How It Works
1. Introducing The Hope
หวัง means hope or expect, and ว่า introduces the content in the pattern taught here. The primary university dictionary independently gives ดิฉันหวังว่าจะพบเขาในไม่ช้า, a hope to meet him soon. It also records หวังที่จะ in a different complete construction, so the root is not restricted to one frame.
2. Read Who Hopes
เราหวังว่าเขาจะชนะการเลือกตั้ง explicitly names เรา as the people hoping. The other stored examples do not explicitly name the person who hopes; their English translations select “I” from context. This does not make an omitted first-person subject part of every หวังว่า construction.
3. Read The Following Clause
เราจะได้เจอกันอีก expresses meeting again, and เขาจะชนะการเลือกตั้ง expresses winning the election. คุณคงจะสบายดี contains คงจะ in the statement about being well. ฝนจะไม่ตก places ไม่ inside the clause, so the hoped-for outcome is the absence of rain. These are complete readings, not measured rules about auxiliary frequency, email formulas, or automatic politeness.
4. The Practice Pattern
The task selects หวังว่าคุณจะมา, with ว่า linking the hope to คุณจะมา. It teaches that displayed pattern without classifying every contextual utterance that omits ว่า.
5. Related Desires And Wishes
Compare อยากให้ and ขอให้ in their own complete examples. Their English translations can overlap, but this entry does not rank how personal, polite, or realistic every hope or wish must be.
Examples (4)
- หวังว่าเราจะได้เจอกันอีกนะ
I hope we will get to meet again.
Word by Word: hope that we will get meet each other again (softener)
จะ appears in the hoped-for meeting clause. The Thai wording does not explicitly name the person who hopes; the English selects “I” from context.
- หวังว่าคุณคงจะสบายดี
I hope you are doing well.
Word by Word: hope that you probably well
The hoped-for state is that คุณ is well, with คงจะ included in the Thai clause. This sentence does not establish a required email opening or a fixed politeness effect for คงจะ.
- เราหวังว่าเขาจะชนะการเลือกตั้ง
We hope that he will win the election.
Word by Word: we hope that he will win election
A neutral statement of hope regarding a future event.
- หวังว่าฝนจะไม่ตกนะ
I hope it won't rain.
Word by Word: hope that rain will not fall (softener)
Uses ไม่ inside the clause to express a negative hope (hoping something does NOT happen).
Common Mistakes
Keep ว่า In The Pattern Practised Here.
หวังคุณจะมาหวังว่าคุณจะมาThe selected pattern is หวังว่าคุณจะมา, using ว่า before คุณจะมา. The task teaches that whole construction; it does not declare every contextual หวังคุณจะมา utterance ungrammatical.
