restar
Staying Somewhere
Restar means to stay, and it opens the stem vowel in stressed forms.
How It Works
Restar is a regular -ar verb with the stem vowel change you saw in lèvi, levam.
| Person | Form |
|---|---|
| ieu | rèsti |
| tu | rèstas |
| el, ela | rèsta |
| nosautres | restam |
| vosautres | restatz |
| eles, elas | rèstan |
The stress falls on the stem in the forms with è and on the ending in restam and restatz. The grave accent is part of the spelling. A place phrase usually follows: Restam a l'ostal. Restar says that someone stays, and demorar says that someone lives in a place. Fins a deman can say how long the stay lasts.
