Months of the Year

Level 1

Twelve month names, written with a small letter.

How It Works

maiMaynovembreNovember
junhJunedecembreDecember

Month names are ordinary words: a small letter inside a sentence. Keep the accents and the cedilla of març. The month mai is spelled like the word mai (more).

Use en and the month for "in": en març. The month does not change. Learn them in order, from genièr to decembre. All twelve are masculine. Mind the spelling: genièr, febrièr and julhet differ from the French.

Examples (3)

  1. Sèm en febrièr.

    It is February.

    En introduces the month.

  2. En agost, anam a la mar.

In August we go to the sea.

    The month opens the sentence.

  3. Mon fraire arriba en març.

    My brother arrives in March.

    Març keeps its cedilla.

Common Mistakes

  • Starting a month with a capital, as in English.

    Sèm en Febrièr.
    Sèm en febrièr.

Occitan writes month names with a small letter.
