se + Present
If with the Present
Se plus the present gives a condition: Se plòu, demoram a l'ostal.
How It Works
| After se | Result | Example |
|---|---|---|
| present | present | Se plòu deman, demoram a l'ostal. |
| present | future | Se fa bèl temps deman, anarem a la mar. |
| present | command | S'as fam, manja una frucha! |
English says If it rains tomorrow, with a present verb, and Occitan does the same: Se plòu deman. The future belongs only in the result.
Elide before a vowel: S'as fam, s'es aicí. This course writes se. The spelling si is also printed, but much less often, and Provençal and Gascon use it.
The condition can come second: Anam a la mar, se fa bèl temps.
