quant
How Much and How Many
Quant asks how much or how many.
How It Works
| Form | Used with | Example |
|---|---|---|
| quant | a price or an amount | Quant còsta lo libre? |
| quantes | masculine plural | Quantes libres avètz? |
| quantas | feminine plural | Quantas cadièras avètz? |
Match the ending to the noun you count: quantes goes with libres, and quantas goes with cadièras. The masculine plural is quantes, with -es, not quants. Laus lists four forms: quant, quanta, quantes and quantas.
For age, use the fixed question Quant as d'ans? (to a friend) or Quant avètz d'ans? (polite). The d' is de before the vowel of ans.
