यहाँ can mean you with great respect: यहाँलाई स्वागत छ is welcome to you, said with great respect.

How It Works

यहाँ usually means here. In very formal speech it can also mean you, said to a person who deserves great respect. It can also point to an honored person who is present, as he or she: यहाँ हाम्रा अतिथि हुनुहुन्छ (this is our honored guest).

Ordinary useHonorific use
यहाँ बस्नुहोस् (sit here)यहाँलाई स्वागत छ (welcome to you)

The honorific यहाँ follows the rules of तपाईं. It takes postpositions without a space (यहाँलाई, यहाँको, यहाँले) and a verb with the polite ending: यहाँले दिनुभएको योगदान.

It belongs to ceremonies, speeches, introductions and printed programs. A host may say यहाँको उपस्थितिले कार्यक्रम गरिमामय बन्यो. In ordinary conversation, तपाईं is the polite word, and यहाँ would usually sound too grand.

The meaning comes from the setting: if the speaker faces one honored person and speaks formally, यहाँ means you.
