-ओस् / -ऊन्
Wishes with -ओस्
Add -ओस् or -ऊन् to the stem to wish something for someone else, or to say let them do it.
How It Works
These endings belong to people who are not in the conversation. You are not speaking to them. You are wishing something for them, or saying let them do it.
| Subject | Ending | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ऊ | -ओस् | ऊ चाँडै निको होस्। |
| उनी, several | -ऊन् | उनीहरू सुरक्षित पुगून्। |
After a vowel stem the ending is written -ओस् and -ऊन्, as in आओस् and आऊन्. After a consonant stem the endings are written with vowel signs: गरोस् and गरून्. The forms होस् and होऊन् come from हुनु.
The same ending sometimes gives a mild order for a third person: साथीहरू समयमा आऊन् (let the friends come on time). It never addresses the listener. To tell तपाईं to do something you use -नुहोस्, and for तिमी its own command form, as in आऊ or बस.
