-न मिल्छ

Asking if It Is Allowed

Level 3Sounds Like na milcha

-न मिल्छ asks or says what is allowed.

How It Works

मिल्नु here means fit, suit or be allowed. With a -न verb it is a short way to ask if a rule lets you do something.

QuestionAnswer
यहाँ फोटो खिच्न मिल्छ?मिल्छ। / मिल्दैन।
यहाँ बस्न मिल्छ?मिल्छ।

It is used for places, rules and general things: यहाँ धूम्रपान गर्न मिल्दैन (smoking is not allowed here).

Compare पाउनु. -न पाउनु asks whether a person may do it: के मैले यहाँ बस्न पाउँछु? -न मिल्छ asks whether it is allowed at all: यहाँ बस्न मिल्छ? Both are everyday.

The form is the -न form plus मिल्छ, not the -नु form: बस्न मिल्छ, not बस्नु मिल्छ.
