-न पाउनु

Being Allowed or Getting to

Level 3Sounds Like na pā'unu

-न पाउनु means be allowed to or get the chance to.

How It Works

पाउनु means get. With a -न verb, it means you get to do something, either because someone allows it or because things work out.

SenseExample
allowedके मैले यहाँ बस्न पाउँछु?
did not get toमैले हिजो सुत्न पाइनँ।
get toम नेपाल जान पाउँछु!

With तपाईं the polite verb is पाउनुहुन्छ, and the negative is पाउनुहुन्न: तपाईंले यहाँ फोटो खिच्न पाउनुहुन्न (you may not take photos here).

The doer often takes ले in a question or in the past: मैले, तिमीले, बच्चाहरूले. In a present sentence it may be left out: म नेपाल जान पाउँछु.

Use the -न form before पाउनु, not the -नु form.
