माफ गर्नुहोस्

Saying Sorry and Excuse Me

Level 1Sounds Like māpha garnuhōs

One polite phrase covers excuse me and sorry.

How It Works

माफ गर्नुहोस् is built from माफ (pardon) and the polite command गर्नुहोस् (please do). It means please pardon me.

UseExample
get attentionमाफ गर्नुहोस्, यो कति हो?
ask the wayमाफ गर्नुहोस्, बजार कहाँ छ?
apologizeमाफ गर्नुहोस्।
say you do not followमाफ गर्नुहोस्, म बुझ्दिनँ।

It is polite and works with anyone you address as तपाईं.

With a friend you can say माफ गर, the same command in the friend's form.

माफ is written as its own word, and गर्नुहोस् follows it.

It also fits when you step past someone or bump into them. माफ गर्नुहोस् alone is enough.
