भन्दा

Comparing Things

Level 2Sounds Like bhandā

Use भन्दा for than.

How It Works

Nepali names the thing you describe, then the thing you compare it with, joined to भन्दा, then the describing word. You do not need a word like more.

EnglishNepali
This house is bigger than that house.यो घर त्यो घरभन्दा ठूलो छ।
Pokhara is smaller than Kathmandu.पोखरा काठमाडौंभन्दा सानो छ।

The describing word comes last, just before छ. It does not need a special comparative ending.

भन्दा also compares what you like: मलाई चियाभन्दा कफी मन पर्छ (I like coffee more than tea). The thing you like more comes right after the thing you compare with.

Write it as one word with the noun: घरभन्दा, दाइभन्दा, हिजोभन्दा. A pronoun joins too: मभन्दा, तिमीभन्दा, उसभन्दा.
