Still, Yet and Even More

Level 3Sounds Like ajhai, ajha ra jhan

अझै shows time that goes on, and अझ and झन् show more of something.

How It Works

These three words sound alike but do different jobs.

WordMeaningExample
अझैstill, yetऊ अझै सुतिरहेको छ।
अझeven moreयो अझ राम्रो छ।
झन्even more, getting more soआज झन् चिसो छ।

अझै goes with a verb and speaks about time: म अझै नेपाली सिक्दै छु (I am still learning Nepali). With a negative it means not yet: बस अझै आएको छैन.

अझ and झन् go with a describing word or a verb and compare: हिजोभन्दा आज झन् चिसो छ (today is even colder than yesterday).

झन् often shows something getting more and more so: उसलाई सोध्दा ऊ झन् रिसायो (when I asked him, he got even angrier).

Do not use अझ for still: अझै is the word for still, and अझ is for even more.
