बाट
From and Through
बाट tells you where someone starts from or which way they pass through.
How It Works
बाट is a postposition: a small word that follows a noun and joins to it. It means from or through, and it can also mean by, as in बसबाट (by bus).
| Use | Example |
|---|---|
| Starting place | म काठमाडौंबाट आउँछु। |
| Way through | ऊ ढोकाबाट आउँछ। |
| Another way through | ऊ झ्यालबाट हेर्छ। |
To ask where someone comes from, use कहाँबाट: तपाईं कहाँबाट आउनुहुन्छ? The answer usually repeats बाट: म पोखराबाट आउँछु.
A place you go to usually takes no postposition. म काठमाडौं जान्छु means I go to Kathmandu. If you add बाट, the sentence says you start from Kathmandu.
Like other postpositions, बाट is written as part of the word before it, with no space.
